Ferrari stole the show with the new F50. The prototype was named
F130, but as the car is the spiritual successor to the F40, the
guys in Maranello decided to change the designation, hence the
F50.
The car is based on the Ferrari 641/2 F1 racer in which Alain
Prost nearly became driver's championship, back in 1990.
Ferrari enlarged the V12 engine: the power is 520bhp at 8500 rpm,
from 4.7 litres.
Dimensions: l/w/h: 4480/ 1986/ 1120 mm (176.4/ 78.2/ 44.1 in),
wheelbase 2580 mm (101.6 in), weight: 1230 kg (2076 lb).
The max speed is said to be ower 200 mph, a little more than
the F40's, but well below the McLaren F1, the biggest competitor.
The F50 will be just half the cost of the McLaren.
The first 50 cars will head for the States to avoid the the
tougher regulations which will enter in 1997. In total 349 cars
will be built.
