Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: nobbc-bounces@autox.team.net

You all have been quite.

Our next ride is scheduled for tomorrow 10/27/12

I'm not sure I can make it as I am battling a nasty case of poison oak.

But I might.

Weather is supposed to be fantastic!

Anyway, you all should meet at bad ass coffee at 10am and go on a ride.

Anybody got a good idea?

Hope to see you tomorrow

And as always, bring a full tank of gas, a lunch and a folding chair.

JOHN KENNER

Well, since Dawson says it will be good for me I guess I'll go!!

I hate missing these rides.

Time to think about switching to the Winter Schedule of one ride per month?

oooh noooo, I have to pick a friend up at the airport.
I think Clif has a work day scheduled for his rear end. (Lemons car)
May drop by to say "hi" though.
I do agree, hate missing rides.

Well, since Dawson says it will be good for me I guess I'll go!!

I hate missing these rides.

Time to think about switching to the Winter Schedule of one ride per month?

Can't make this one. Helping a friend put the engine back in
a TR-3. I doubt we will be done in time to go on the run.
Maybe next time.

Hi John,
Thanks for leading the ride, and we hope going helps heal your poison oak!
Unfortunately, Jan and I will be working on some exterior painting and
exterior window repair...seems our weather for doing this is beginning to be
intermittent and unpredictable.
I wish we had started these projects earlier, as our ride weather is becoming
the same...and tomorrow should be a great day for a ride.
Can you tell we are choosing what we have to do, not what we would like to
do?????
We hope to see you next time.
Best regards,
Gary and Janet Germano '70 yellow MGB

I made a ride leader mistake today.

We were heading down Silverado Trail towards St. Helena to have lunch

at Taylors Refresher and I was looking for the stone bridge

at Pope Street to turn right onto.

Instead I mad an abrupt turn ( a Lotus thing) at the stone bridge on Pratt
Street.

The result was I lost = of the riders and they never showed up at Taylors.

The mysterious part was that Betz Miller was able to turn Froggy around and
catch up to the

2 of us that were waiting. Where did the rest of you guys go? Didnt you see
Betz, who was in front of you, turn around?

I ask because I need to learn from my mistake.

For those of you who have been sitting at home on ride day:

2 weeks ago we had 10 cars

and this week we had 7.

2 MGs with V6s in em and Renee with the V8 MG. A 1948 MG, Jim Leggs MG,
Dawson Healey and my little old Lotus.

SORRY GUYS.

JOHN KENNER

Subject: [NOBBC] '58 Jag XK-150 Repair Question
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: nobbc-bounces@autox.team.net

Have any of you fellow XK owners in the club had to replace the rubber
coupling that connects the upper and lower portions of the steering column
on your car?

On my car, this looks like the original rubber component now hardened,
badly checked and with a significant crack partway down the long axis of
the coupling. I have a new replacement coupling sourced from XK's Unlimited
but not a clue as to the correct procedure for making the replacement. Does
the entire column have to come out of the car, or can I simply disconnect
the lower column at its connection (u-joint) to the steering rack to
release the tension on the coupling and install the relacement with the
upper column still on the car?

There is more than the usual amount of play in the steering, making me
reluctant to drive the car. If it needs to go to a shop for this fix it
will probably have to get there on a trailer.

Thanks for any advice.

Why would anyone own an old British sports car? Because the car needs you.

Hi John,

No problem, it was a glorious day to be out! Yes, I saw her turn, but
didn't know why. The rest of us kept going. When we neared Napa, I realized
that we'd overshot and turned around myself, but just went straight home.

Cheers,

Dawson

Brad - that's a job I've not done but* *did find the following, which may
be of some help:
http://jag2jag.com/forum/topics/the-otto-mueller-xk-150-rrr

There is a section with pictures on steering column restoration. It looks
to me like the entire column should be removed and repaired as necessary
while you are doing the coupling replacement. If you like, I could take a
look to give my 2 cents worth!. Best,Rob

Hey gang, one of my fellow Land Rover loon pals has acquired a rolling wreck
of a Land Rover from a guy in Vallejo, and he carelessly brought it home.

But the story of interest here is that the seller, also has a back yard full
of MGs in various states of decay. The Land Rover loon has entered into an
agreement with the guy to help dispose of this .. uh mess or treasure,
depending on your needs I suppose. Anyway. at this point there is no
inventory since much of it has yet to be unearthed in the detritus or exposed
to the light after getting rid of other stuff. He says he'll come up with
some descriptions, but until then here's a link to some photos. Caveat:
viewing not advisable for the weak of heart.

If anyone wants to be on a list for something you need, lemme know and I'll
forward your request. If the Land Rover guy consents I could be able to
provide a direct link. There are also engine blocks and other such under
cover from the weather . but I'd guess they're in similar condition. The
pile includes TD, MGA and MGB carcasses.

So here's the photo link:

Gerry,
That is the mother of all MG graveyards! Used to be "collections"
like that all over the place, but with the passage of time, owners
die or move on and the stuff gets sold for scrap or to hobbyists in
some cases. My yard and storage building were on the verge of
looking like that at one time, but reality scared me into cleaning it up.

Gerry,

What a find, I would be interested if there were any MGC skeletons in
the pack.
I think the MGC is very rare compared to most classics but goes
unnoticed by
most and parts are getting hard to find. Please keep us posted.
I love my
British cars, but if anyone ever runs across a 1952 - 1962 Alfa
Romeo Giulietta
Spyder please let me know. I use to have a 1961 and would
love to have one to
play with again.

I sent your info to Greg Harwood the Land Rover guy. along with a note
asking what he wants to do. I know that he's taken on more than he has time
for but I'm sure he'll work his way through all that crap eventually.

I did spot something in the mess that, to me, looks like an MGC bonnet.
check photo #57. Isn't that from an "C"?
And weren't most of the MGCs the GTs? I don't think I saw many convertibles
back then.

Yeah I've been amazed at what has happened to the price of Giuliettas.
especially the Sprint Speciales .. geez. I always preferred the slightly
newer ones for some of the minor detail improvements and for the 5-speed and
. well. I think I prefer the 1600 engine. As it is none of 'em are
over-powered. even by anemic British Car standards.
And hey being honest here. I know it's a little shallow but really the later
bonnet with the wider scoops looks a lot cooler.

Trouble is I can't think of any good reason to get a long desired over
another Brit car, considering that I could probably get a semi decent Jag Mk
II for the price of a so-so Alfa.

Hi Gerry thanks for the photos of the MG scrap yard. I'll take on most
projects but those cars are too far gone to even bother with. There may be
some parts that could be salvaged but based on the photos it looks like it's
mostly scrap by now.

Andy

4 MGs and don't need another one.

Subject: MG Stuff..

Hey gang, one of my fellow Land Rover loon pals has acquired a rolling wreck
of a Land Rover from a guy in Vallejo, and he carelessly brought it home.

But the story of interest here is that the seller, also has a back yard full
of MGs in various states of decay. The Land Rover loon has entered into an
agreement with the guy to help dispose of this ... uh mess or treasure,
depending on your needs I suppose. Anyway.. at this point there is no
inventory since much of it has yet to be unearthed in the detritus. or
exposed to the light after getting rid of other stuff. He says he'll come
up with some descriptions, but until then here's a link to some photos.
Caveat: viewing not advisable for the weak of heart.

If anyone wants to be on a list for something you need, lemme know and I'll
forward your request. If the Land Rover guy consents I could be able to
provide a direct link. There are also engine blocks and other such under
cover from the weather .. but I'd guess they're in similar condition. The
pile includes TD, MGA and MGB carcasses.

So here's the photo link:
