After replacing side window seals I have difficulties to replace windows and
adjust lift movement. Windows are in situ, but when lift moves up and down
windows want to move fore and after. When adjusting U rails at rear of the
door, window tilts and stop moving. There must be some common wisdom I dont
know?

Lauri,

The window channels are different sizes between series, ithink pre SII and
SIII on. You may have used parts from different series, e.g with rollers
too large for the channel. Is that possible. If not, it may be the side
channels need moving in a little to avoid catching. Also try a little silcon
grease on the side channels, and plenty of regular grease in the bottom
channel under the glass.

Julian.

Hi Julian (and folks),

yes, I mixed S4 and S5 mechanisms. Rollers in S5 were so big there was no
hope to get them into S4 rails. So I had to take working gear system from S5
and rivet them into my old parts. Ron Tebo just answered me and told that
window supporting rails must be adjusted front and rear. I adjusted rear,
and only the top end, and am quite sure it will operate correctly when it is
lined with the window route front, rear and up and down. It works well
when supported by hand, but steel is not as flexible as flesh.

Thank you all, it might be able to find this info also from workshop manual,
but at midnight time I was toooo tired.

Has anyone a flame trap to sell? I have not found any for sale in the net,
and I missed my old one.

I was out cruising around in my Tiger and a guy waved me down and
said he had an Apline in storage he would like to sell. Not clear on a price
but
he said he paid $5500 for it. He's in the north Seattle area and I didn't get
any
details other than it's red and been in storage for several years.
You can call him at 425-503-6426 his name is Todd Speiser. no email on his
business card.

I've known of this photo since college around 1972, but am just asking for help
about it now.

In some editions of the Bill Owens coffee table book SUBURBIA, the cover photo
is a couple in lawn chairs on their driveway, their son on roller skates next
to them, the garage door is open, and inside is a boat on the left and either
a Tiger or an Alpine on the right. I'm trying to find out if any of our Northern
California folks know either the car or the people and what model Sunbeam it
is. I'll give you all of the information I have so far.

The California black plate number is UGT 517.

The license plate dealer frame is from Jay's Auto Imports, in San Leandro, CA

The photo also appeared in the Week in Review section of the New York Times,
dated May 18, 1997, and their caption read, "Livermore, Calif. 1970: Savoring
life in the middle class, when it's easier to define."

The photo credit: Bill Owens (photographer) from the Robert Koch Gallery, San

Subject: [Alpines] Alpine/Tiger photo

I've known of this photo since college around 1972, but am just asking for
help
about it now.

In some editions of the Bill Owens coffee table book SUBURBIA, the cover
photo
is a couple in lawn chairs on their driveway, their son on roller skates next
to them, the garage door is open, and inside is a boat on the left and either
a Tiger or an Alpine on the right. I'm trying to find out if any of our
Northern
California folks know either the car or the people and what model Sunbeam it
is. I'll give you all of the information I have so far.

The California black plate number is UGT 517.

The license plate dealer frame is from Jay's Auto Imports, in San Leandro, CA

The photo also appeared in the Week in Review section of the New York Times,
dated May 18, 1997, and their caption read, "Livermore, Calif. 1970: Savoring
life in the middle class, when it's easier to define."

The photo credit: Bill Owens (photographer) from the Robert Koch Gallery, San
Francisco

I found an easy to view image online by Googling images and searching for
'Bill Owens Suburbia'.

The car has reverse lights, but I can't make out the area left of the license
plate on the boot/trunk where a 'Sunbeam Tiger' emblem pair might be, and the
area underneath the bumper is too dark to check if the car has 'twice pipes'.

No, but you're close. It's those classic folding lawn chairs. Got any idea what
those go for in a retro store today?

That's the B answer. The A answer is that which model car this was has bugged
me for years, more so after I saw Dana Freeman's Tiger back again in 1988 and
after I bought my own car the next year. And, each time I would try to find
out more, something else would come up and I would have to drop the search.
This weekend, I unearthed the NY Times photo and tried again.

If Norm is correct, the car is a Tiger Mk II more recently housed in Castro
Valley, west of the Livermore location from the original photo. In the Book
of Norman, the color as of Jan. 1977
is listed as blue (The license plate number in the photo matches the entry in
the BON). If it hasn't changed color, my best guess is Mediterranean Blue, based
on the light color in the photo. And the owners were still members of STOA as
of 2000, the latest roster that I have shows.

This has turned into the Rootes version of History Detectives. Thanks to all
so far who've helped me.

Yes, garages form even today a nice background for pictures or video clips.
Google 'youtube call me maybe' for a contemporary video clip involving not a Tiger but a (I assume) Ford Mustang Mk1.
