Subject: [6pack] 76 wiring

Errors-To: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net

I installed a new wire harness in a 76 TR6.
Unfortunately for me I didn't take notice of where the black with blue
tracer wire
connects to the relay. And, It is not shown in the wire diagrams where it
connect to the relay.
I believe it gives power to the seat belt buzzer.
Anybody with a 76 who can check. Its not on any other year.

Thanks,

Al

Al;

Not sure if anyone's gotten back to you yet on your question but, according
to the Dan Masters Electrical Maintenance Handbook, the black wire with
blue tracer (B/U) is a "*grounding *lead from the left hand seat sensor to
the seat belt interlock module." Doesn't appear to be a power lead...

Hope this helps...

Cheers,

Dave Friedlander

Depending on year, you will have a switch for the seat belt interlock.

You didn't state the type of overdrive or the year. Normally, the switch
on the right allows the overdrive to work in 3rd and 4th. The front-left
switch allows it to work in 2nd. The rear-left one is for backup
lights. There were also some that had a seatbelt lockout, but I think
that was only one year.

It looks like you are missing the throwout bearing carrier? Check your bag of
parts and see if its still attached to the old bearing...

It looks like you are missing the throwout bearing carrier? Check your bag
of parts and see if its still attached to the old bearing...

I restored my buckles and had an upholstery shop replace the webbing.
But since mine is a TR250, there is no retractor. I rarely see other
TR250s with the original seat belts.

Im gonna need new tires soon, and Id like to make that purchase compatible
with the kind of tube-shock upgrade kits that bolt into the original shock
mounting holes.
Unfortunately, I cant find any info about the max tire sizes allowed for that

(Yeah, I found info on the body-mount option, but not for the simpler
direct-replacement option.)
Any advice?

I have a 7/8" bar on the front of my car, and 3/4" on the rear, the car
corners flat and is very neutral in handling, I love the set up, this is the
Addco set as sold by TRF and others, stock springs, rear tube shocks.

If you size the rear bar properly, you will not have oversteer. Any rear
bar WILL reduce understeer. Do you ever go on the 6-Pack Forum? As a result
of the efforts of one of or members, Addco produced a special rear bar last
year for the TR6 so that understeer could be safely reduced.

A friend has 215 70 15 Goodyears on his 73 TR6. It really fill the wheel well. You could buy a used tire in the size you want to go with and see if there are any issues before you buy a set. Then use it as your spare. Just my .02. Dale

Im gonna need new tires soon, and Id like to make that purchase compatible
with the kind of tube-shock upgrade kits that bolt into the original shock
mounting holes.
Unfortunately, I cant find any info about the max tire sizes allowed for that
option.
(Yeah, I found info on the body-mount option, but not for the simpler
direct-replacement option.)
Any advice?

Doug;

I have been running the uprated front and rear Addco bars for more than 5
years. One issue which may not be readily apparent is that the rear sway
bar interferes the use of a stock muffler position.

David, good point about the exhaust/muffler clearance, I don't run a stock
set up, but your post reminded me that I had clearance problems too, I ended
up having to pull the pipes up a little and also shimming the sway bar mount
down off the frame just a little to make it all fit, still tight.

I see. I run a stainless six-into-one header with the single pipe back to a
non-stock muffler (I got from Summit) running in-line with the exhaust,
rather than transverse like the stock muffler.

It's be nice if those selling the rear Addco bar included a caveat advising
those who plan to install the bar to also plan on some special attention to
the
rear muffler arrangement.

Cheers,

Dave

Subject: [6pack] Seat Belt Interlock Module
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net

Hello gents!

As we all know, the boys in Coventry installed a wondrous electrical device
in our Sixes known as the seat belt interlock module. When I replaced my
old seatbelts with the newer version, the seat belt sensor and seat sensors
were eliminated, as the new belts had no such provision. I have had no
problem with this arrangement until a few days ago when the seat belt
module
(Green Catalog page 335/item TKC734) started to emit a sickly whining
signal.
We've checked out the driver side door switches, the neutral safety switch,
and
the ignition relay. I believe the problem is with the seat belt interlock
module
itself (a Smiths product). Should I eliminate this module altogether,
wiring the
starter relay so that the car will start without the module? Has anyone
ever
attempted to repair this module (a riveted assembly, with 1970's
electronics
packed within)? Anyone else dealt with this problem? Right now, I can't
start
my car without the module and can't handle the noise *with *the module!

Appreciate any insights....

Don't blame TRiumph. Thsi was a Federal safety standard for ALL new cars
sold in the US in 1974. The outcry was such that it was lifted after only 1
year.

Look at the module. Identify the white with red wire, and the white with
orange wire. Cut them, then connect them to each other. This eliminates the
module from the circuitry of the car. Since I did this, no more issues.
