I would contact 6-Pack member Bob Danielson. He makes interior bits that
are beautifully. I don't think he's doing seat covers, but he would likely
be able to match whatever color you chose for your seats. NFI.

The problem will be keeping the diamond pattern, els you could have custom
skins done up in anything you want. What was the original shade of tan?

The TR6 had three tans, the early 1969 cars had "light tan" code 13 (or
biscuit as it is often called) and the later 1970-74 cars had the darker "new
tan" code 33, then in 1975-76 it changed to "beige" code 74 which is quite
yellow looking.

All of the seat insert vinyls were "Amblar" pattern.

FWIW, I think the biscuit is the nicest :-)

Best Regards,

David.

Subject: [6pack] Painted Stripes on Cylinder Head
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net

Good AM, All.

My friend is rebuilding the engine on a 73 TR6 for another member of our
club. This TR6 is a 1 owner car, and it is completely unmolested. The head
was removed for the first time ever just a couple of weeks ago. On the
spark plug side of the head, there are 3 horizontal painted stripes. There
is 1 - 1" wide white painted stripe each between cylinders 2 and 3,
cylinders 3 nd 4, and cylinders 4 and 5. I have a photo available if anyone
wants to see this, but the list strips attachments so it isn't included
here. Has anyone seen anything like this? Does anyone know if they have any
special significance, and if so, what they mean?

Thanks,

Irv Korey

If I recall correctly, which isn't normal for me, retarding the timing reduces the idle speed so that the throttle valves could be open more at idle to bring the idle speed back to normal. Opening the throttle valves lean the idle mixture reducing hydrocarbons at idle.

There are several types of vacuum that could in general be applied to a
distributor.

Some american cars use something I believe is called port vacuum which
has zero vacuum at idle and then more vacuum as the throttle opens. I
believe something similar to this style of vacuum was used for vacuum
retard on later TR6s. I believe the purpose of this was to lower
combustion pressure and temperature to lower NOX. Later TR6s also had
some kind of temperature switch which changed which port was supplied to
the distributor. Unfortunately I do not understand the purpose of that
switch but I suspect it allowed a little less retard on cold engines
since cold engines need more power and also do not produce as much NOX
anyway.

The manifold vacuum which should be high at idle and go to zero at WOT
is what I believe that was used on early TR6s for vacuum advance.
Traditional vacuum advance like this gives you no advance at WOT but as
you close the throttle for cruise, it advances the ignition for more
power and MPG. I don't think it has a large effect on pollutants but it
does help MPG and it is a shame that it was dropped from the later TR6.

I think the middle years of the TR6 had both vacuum advance and retard.

This is all just my recollection off the top of my head, please correct
me if I am wrong.

The vacuum retard on the TR6 was/is strictly an emission control device. I
believe the retarded spark reduced unburned hydrocarbon emissions. Since it
also causes the engine to run hotter, the thermal switch in the upper
radiator hose interrupts the vacuum above a certain temperature which causes
the idle to increase and cool the engine.

My water pump is starting to sound off so I checked my catalogs from the

TRF has a dual pulley (as original) for $65.99 and a single pulley that

Don't forget to check your nearest NAPA store. I needed a water pump for our
GT6 and I had a new pump, not rebuilt, in one day for a competitive price.
