15 years or so when I worked at Bailey's Automotive here in Salt
Lake,Mike Bailey had a fancy new electronic timing light with dwell,
rpm, etc. functions. It was a Mac, sold for like 5 - 600 dollars. At
times it was totally useless on LBCs of the 50s and 60s. These cars put
out so much electro-magnetic interference the modern timing light would
sometimes just wonk out. Like claiming 163 degrees of advance at 14,500
rpm while idling on a 6 cylinder Healey motor. I would use my trusty
old Craftsman timing light, the fancy one with the dial on the back,
bought new circa 1975 when tuning older British cars.

Period tools for period cars.
