I happen to have a scanned copy of a 6 terminal cutoff switch designed for 
use with an alternator.  Here's a link to the stock instructions:

that to avoid running extra wires through that switch in a particular 
installation: http://www.tonydrews.com/Kill_Switch3.jpg .  These are pretty 
large pictures and IE 6.0 seems to shrink them and make the little lines 
difficult to see.  When you turn off the switch, it opens the top and 
bottom contact sets but closes the middle contact set to allow the 
alternator to bleed off the voltage through a resistor.
