Mike,
I enjoyed it. Thought they did a nice job avoiding the trap of "old farts
bs'ing" about egos, cars, personal opinions and pointless whatnot (the
typical Speedvision formula, which could usually apply to any track
anywhere), or going to the other extreme of fretting and overanalyzing about
the wisdom or political correctness of racing. They kept it nicely focused on
a beautiful place that's a special part of a lot of peoples' lives. It
painted a positive picture of a pastime that is often shown in a neutral if
not negative light. And even though they interviewed some "stars" each one
made Lime Rock the center of their comments at a very personal level. I
thought it was great but I admit to being easily entertained. The general
narration didn't bother me. Any shortfall there has to be easily made up for
by the comments of Fitch, Posey and a host of others. Seeing the twinkle in
their eyes when they talked about Lime Rock was enough for a five-star
recommendation.
Hope it shows on PBS stations outside Connecticut.
