I agree Myles has the right idea about changing oil/filter early and often, I 
use the redline syn  race oil in my engine,  change it every race weekend, 
(gearbox too) I cut open the filter to look for any signs of foreign matter  
and  save the filters until the engine is torn down................. my 
current project will have a Canton Mecca type canister filter to save 
time/energy in the inspection process..............chuck 1275cc
