Kendall,
You've found one of the Armstrong adjustable rear shocks. These were
available from BMC Special Tuning and later BL Special Tuning. Part numbers
were C-AHA-7906(rh) and C-AHA 7907(lh). I believe they were homolgated for
SCCA. These were the part #s for the later spridgets and they can be used on
the 1/4 elliptic spring cars by fitting a 5/32" spacer plate between the
shock absorber and body. The drop link (6") should be replaced by the 4 1/2"
link if you're using the shock on a bugeye or MkII.
I bought one of these shocks when Jaguar-Rover-Triumph was garage-saleing the
old competition parts bins. Subsequently I was able to locate a rebuilt
adjustable from AH Spares in England to make a pair. They've been residing
under my street bugeye since.
You won't be able to use just the adjustable valve in a stock shock body.
The shock body on the adjustable is entirely different that the stock shock.
I don't know where to find one now, but you might try AH Spares.
Best of luck in your search,
Rick Neville
