You'd be surprise at how well and accurate the Mk. Vs are built. Yes,
it even uses ZF 5DS25/2 Transaxle, original instruments, same wheels,
same sheet steel semi-monocoque chassis, original molds to build the
car, etc. But the car do benefit from the use of modern technology in
the different construction methods. Hence, the lighter and more rigid
body. The suspension is tune to the Alan Mann version. Don't forget,
it's the original mechanics and builders that put these Mk. Vs
together. The engines come in 289, 302 and 427, and there were 5 Mk. II
bodied cars fitted with 494 (8.1 litre)engines. By the way, original
Mk. II's do not come in 289 as you've stated, only 427. Mk. I comes in
289 and later, 302 in the Gulf/Wyer cars.
Although Ford can't endorse the car with their name, for liability
reasons, they have been officially sanction as genuine GT40s and
recognise as such.
I had just purchased the 1998 revised book "FORD GT40 - An Anglo
American Supercar Classic" by David Hodges and was very surprised to
learn of the credentials associated with the car. It's pretty
interesting.

Regards,
Victor
