Lotus 6 configurations

        In my recent report of the Group one race at Watkins Glen I mentioned 
that I
was passed for the class win by a 1953 Lotus 6 with a 1500cc motor.  (the
entry listed it as a 1508)  I have heard several people tell me that Lotus
6's never had any such motor.  I don't like being beaten by a "cheater" car.
 Can anyone out there shed some light on the subject?  What were the
legitimate engine configurations for Lotus 6's?
