Towing Advice needed

Help needed with some towing questions:

In a couple of weeks I'll be towing a TR6 about 200 miles. But I need 
some advice.

My first option is to borrow a friend's V6 mini pick-up and tow the 
car with a rented dolly.  Will this damage the car or transmission/ 
rear end?

The second option is to rent a truck and car hauler.  About $200 I'd 
rather spend on something else.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
