That series was shot the better part of at least forty years ago, long befo=
re unleaded fuel was available in the UK and when even the tight-fisted BBC=
was willing to pay a London Warren Street autotrader *very* nominal money =
to buy a beat-up car, pay someone to give it a good clean and try not to ge=
t the cameras too close when the car(s) were 'in shot'.
There are two other angles as well.
The police uniforms were discontinued in the early eighties (I wore one whe=
n I was in the voluntary reserve force) in favour of body armour and digita=
l tech, while the motorcycle that puts in the occasional appearance is a wa=
tercooled Ariel (standard police issue in the day) and there really are eve=
n fewer of those gracing our roads today than rusted out Heralds.
