My TR3B has a driver-side outside mirror mounted to the stanchion plate.
The small circular mirror was originally intended for clamping to a body
panel seam -- Austin Mini door leading edges, as I recall. I carefully
bent the support bracket to align the mirror on the raked stanchion, and
the setscrew clamp works as well on the stanchion plate as on a body panel.
I don't run sidecurtains or soft top -- only a tonneau. This mirror
position and mounting would not work with sidecurtains in place because it
would interfere with door opening and closing.

Some folks have tapped a threaded hole into the outside of the
stanchion and mounted a mirror more permanently than my approach. That can
look pretty nice. Other folks have adapted a single-screw mirror mount to
a stanchion screw. I've never been crazy about that approach, although
it's seemed to work for them.
