I threw away one of those 5-vane "uprated" water pumps a couple of years
ago. I put back my TR3B's original pump after its rebuilding by EP
Services in the UK (along with a few other things to the cooling system
like flushing block-radiator, remounting front apron-deflecfor, and fitting
Macy's "Hurricane" fan).

The car now runs as cool as when I got it 42 years ago. Maybe cooler,
despite moving to 87mm pistons and liners. Prior to those changes it ran
hot for ten years, right on one side or another of boiling over.

I took the pump over during one of my visits to Goodwood and brought it
home during another, with help from friends in the UK. But I could have
posted it both ways. I'm sure somebody over here rebuilds water pumps like
ours to original spec, but the vintage British sportscar ecosystem is so
good in the UK I take advantage of it when possible.

A proper-functioning water pump wasn't the only change, but I give it the
most credit. Proceed with caution around what are claimed as modern
improvements.
