72 TR6 A type overdrive

Been a few years since I have done this so of course I forgot to check to m=
ake sure the car was in neutral before I removed the top of the transmissio=
n.

Got it all back together and the car is stuck in reverse.

I know I have to take the top off again. my question is do I move the shif=
t lever down to reverse before I reassemble or do I try to get the tranny b=
ack in neutral?

Thanks!
