In the US, radios were normally a dealer-installed option; so there was a
lot of variation.

The one in that PDF appears to use "space charge" vacuum tubes that operate
with only 12v on the plates.  Those were a late 50's invention, that became
obsolete in the early 60s (when transistor prices dropped below tube
prices).  Before about 1956 or 57, I believe the TRs used an earlier model
Radiomobile that had high voltage tubes in a separate chassis.
