[TR] 79 tr7 trunk stay up

can the older style mechanical stay-up be installed on a 79 tr7 like the 
bonnet, instead of the expensive gas pistons that keep leaking within a 
year?  i bought a used mechanical device, but it appears the mount is 
missing on the car body?  thanks, larry
