The original cast-iron guides do (sometimes) last quite well, so it's
entirely possible your engine did not need the guides replaced.  If the
engine doesn't blow little puffs of blue smoke when you shift gears, the
guides are probably fine.  But there really isn't any more definitive test
without disassembling the head to measure.

And they are easy enough to change later that I wouldn't worry about it just
now.  Get it back together, drive it awhile, then decide if they need
further attention.
