Gee, Adrian, that description sounds a bit like most postwar Triumphs 
(substitute "Standard" for "Rover"). ;-) Although in fairness, the 
wet-liner four was only about 5-6 years old when it was somewhat 
suitably modified for use in the TR2, and the original 803/948cc that 
evolved into the Spitfire's motor (and the GT6/TR6 motors) only dated 
from about 8-9 years before its first appearance in a "sporting" car.
