When I went to a 302 in the Land Rover my stated goal was to go the 
speed limit up hill.  I told people LR four cylinder performance is 0-60 
same day assuming no head winds or up hill sections.

Now if I wanted to go as fast as your friend I think I would build an 
XJ-13 replica with a Jag V12 powerplant.
