The engine in my GT6 MkI was rebuilt around 15 years ago. It has the original
valve seats. I used a lead additive in it for a while, they quit using it. It
gets driven quite a bit when the weather is nice and I have never had any
problems with it. On the other hand, the lead additive can build up deposits
around the valve stems to the point that they start sticking. This happened to
a guy in my local club with an early TR6. He is firmly convinced that the
additive was to blame. My advice is to run regular unleaded and just don't
worry about it. You can have the seats replaced the next time you have the
head off if it.

Greetings,

I am the proud new owner of a 71 GT6 MKIII and have a basic question. I was
informed
by the previous owner that I should add a lead additive to the fuel. How
importnant
is this and what happens if it is not added? Are there long term effects? Thanks
in advance.

Cameron
