Just out of curiosity, John, did you actually test this ? Maybe by seeing
how far away you could read a sign on a dark road ? There seem to be
opinions on both sides of this one, so this is not a flame at all, I'm
genuinely curious about real world, personal experiences. I recently
switched back from high power ultra-whites to regular high power bulbs, and
they do seem a lot dimmer. But I haven't had a chance to try them on a
really dark road (it never gets dark in Los Angeles) so I don't know if I
really can't see as well or it's an optical illusion.

I have to say that I recommend relays anyway if you're looking for brighter
lights. The stock wiring is adequate, but the original contacts are
marginal IMO. And the long routing of the wiring, from the main switch in
the center all the way to the dimmer switch under your left foot, doesn't
help matters either.
