No offense meant to anyone, but in my humble opinion, no one with any 
reasonable amount of intelligence would do what this person did without 
suspecting that it might be fishy.  Sounds like he was trying to wiggle 
around the DMV for whatever reason and now has the legal troubles to show 
for it.  I know in my state, the DMV has an official procedure for titling 
kit or home built cars, trailers, etc.  And it is perfectly legal and 
won't bring the DA to your doorstep.  I wish this guy luck untangling this 
mess.

Subject: Title nightmare!!!!!!

Seems this other friend built a kit car.  Then he bought a title for it
through a company out of state that specialized in titles.  Seems he
sells them the car, they register the car in their state, and then they
sell it back to him resulting in a clean title in our state.
