| Ian,
I took a generator to a local welding shop I had called first from phone book
listings. Generator had a similar break on front end bracket. They simply
vice-gripped broken piece in alignment, added a high voltage aligator clamp,
and
arc-welded the aluminum back together. I was there a total of 15 minutes max,
It cost $5, I only had to file it smooth a bit, and I did not have to
dissassemble the whole unit.

I have a break in my alternator housing right below
the screw hole where the tensioner bracket meets the
unit. My questions are: Is this housing aluminium?
Isn't it difficult/expensive to (tig) weld that? If I
get it welded might it warp? Would it be cheaper and
easier to find a used housing?
Thanks,
Ian Clough
