See what happens when you deny us Canadians some easy vacation privileges...

(I seem to remember that the final treatment of Tecumseh wasn't so
gallant...)

Thought I'd pass along congratulations to lister Lou Metelko for being
awarded the President's Choice Award at the Lake Erie British Car Show at
Fort Miegs in Toledo, Ohio this past Sunday. His TR2 long-door is a beauty
and won the eye of the judges. This award is especially nice because it's
given by the president of the club who knows what to look for in British
cars. This instead of a people's choice award which sometimes turns into a
popularity contest or whichever car 'charms' participants. If you haven't
seen Lou's car, it's a wonderful example in ice blue and geranium leather
and soft top. I was drooling.

The show had a record 178 cars since the weather was sunny and in the upper
60's. The classes were arranged by years, so each of us were grouped with
cars of various marques and models. There were a surprising number of cars
for sale, maybe a sign of the times. The quality of cars was above
average. It seems like most British cars here in the States are getting
to be of higher and higher quality, the drivers are disappearing rapidly.

The show was at Fort Miegs, the site of a battle in the War of 1812. The
entry fee included admission to the sprawling log-and-earth fortification
on the Maumee River. The fort became the focal point of the war in
1813. Here, the British suffered their first setback of the Northwest
Campaign when a gallant detachment of American troops stood fast against
the British and Canadian soldiers and Tecumseh's Indian warriors.

People's Choice Awards were given out as follows: each class had three or
four 'Awards of Excellence' and a first place. In addition there was a
People's Choice 'Best of Show' which was the 1948 TR2000 and a 'President's
Choice Award, Lou's car as mentioned above. I put a few pictures at:

Cheers,
