It's called a ruler. Best used with a good eyeball to measure the centre
point to centre point distance from hole to hole circumferencially and
diagonally.

You could also use calipers or a piece of string with a knot around a pencil
on one end and a magic marker  to mark the point of centre at the other end.


My local scrap yard has some 4 lug wheels, that I believe may fit my 78
spitfire, but what I'm wondering is, is there a tool to measure the space
between the holes, so I can see if these will fit before I purchase them,
anyone know what the tool is called, or what I'm talking about.  Anybody
got one...???
