I concur with David - a BX fan works well on a TR4 and a modern thermoswitch
screwed into a threaded boss welded to the radiator makes a good auto on-off
switch. IMHO the retro-fit fan kits (Kenlowe, etc) are vastly overpriced and
too fiddly to fit
I wired the thermoswitch and an on/off switch in parallel to a relay and fed
the fan from that via dedicated fuse. I also ran an indicator lamp from the fan
motor feed side of the relay so when the fan has volts the lamp does too. The
lamp being lit doesn't guarantee that the fan is running of course - but a
glance at the ammeter will soon tell you if it is or not!
Of course in the US a BX fan is probably more difficult to find than a TR4 - so
try any import car fan with a duct. They're available from marque specialists /
breakers for pennies
In the same vein I can report that a BX washer bottle & electric pump fits
nicely on the inner wing behind the front wheel arch on the opposite side to
the pedal box
