Hi Bill,
I had this same problem; motor is so stiff, I can barely turn the armiture
by hand. Instead of rebuilding it, however, I replaced it with a new motor
from a more modern car. I had to fabricate a few braces as the mounting
configuration was different, but it was easy to do and I now have a blower
that actually does have speeds throughout the rheostat range. And I always
thought the rheostat was bad.
