Somewhere in my dim past of working in "real gas stations" (the kind with a 
working garage) I recall, after all else failed, (punched through 
screwdrivers, giant channel locks etc.) using the big hammer and a big cold 
chisel driven into the edge of the base of the filter, using adequate care,
