Does any UK lister have suggestions on where to obtain a rocker shaft
that won't wear out in a year? I obtained one from a high profile
Triumph parts supplier that seems to be less than satisfactory and the
rockers themselves were new as well. No lube starvation probs as
everything is squirting as it should up the original feeds - and I
certainly don't plan to use an external oil feed or roller rockers
because there's no need to. Seems to me from comments from other
users that the average rocker shaft generally available is about as
wear resistant as soft putty. Looking at the Chris Witor offering,
there is a tuftrided version at 43 quid which seems a bit steep.
According to Witor's parts list, original factory shafts were
allegedly 58 Rockwell hardness while the one I fitted last year looks
like the typical 16 Rockwell alleged to be sold by many Triumph
specialists at 28 quid or thereabouts. Currently I'm faced with a
knackered shaft, shot rocker bushes and a general state of disarray
that has cost well into three figures to reach this far. Something of
a disappointment, I have to say. The original shaft I replaced when
refitting the re-worked cylinder head was the original version with
the better part of 200,000 miles wear on it. The wear on the
replacement is about the same with 3000 miles covered.
