It's not especially critical, the engine will run OK with the rockers
badly worn.  Probably the first problem is that it becomes difficult to
set the valve clearances accurately.  I've seen engines that ran, where
the bushing was worn completely through.

Look at the tips where the rockers press on the valves.  The surface
should be smooth and slightly rounded.  They frequently wear into a
'notch' shape.  Bushing wear is somewhat hard to judge without
disassembling, but you can slide one of the center rockers to the side
(away from the pedestal) and examine the shaft for wear.  It's easy to
disassemble, just drive out one of the solid pins in the end caps with a
punch and BFH.  Note that they are tapered, it's much easier to drive
them out from the small end <g>
