I read every word....  thanks for all the detail.  I must solve this problem 
as well.  It's an ugly family secret... but my GBX/OD leaks badly.  I used 
Hylomar but the gaskets were not very thick as I remember.

Where did you get the thick gasket and then what was the spec on the gasket 
material that you used for the custom cut gasket.
