There are some long and tedious arguments about why mass transit should
be heavily subsidized. And being a Libertarian myself, I'm inclined to
agree with you.
But, consider that you are reaping the benefits of mass transit, even if
you don't ride it yourself. Less traffic congestion, less air
pollution, less tax money to build new freeways ... (the last freeway
they built near LA wound up costing roughly $1000000/foot !)
I suppose in a fully "free market" society, all "public works" should be
"pay as you go". I for one am quite happy not having to pay a toll to
back out of my driveway, even if it is "unfairly paid for" by people who
don't drive !
