One source for rivets in a wide range of sizes is McMaster-Carr.

A bolt would probably work OK, but be sure the nut cannot come off.
Another option is to buy the entire safety catch and prop rod assembly,
but it does cost a bit more. ($19 in Moss' latest catalog)
