Yes, the post-60000 cars have the control box turned sideways, so the
wires exit towards the fender (wing) (passenger side on LHD, drivers
side on RHD).

Yes, the stator tube should have a slot at the upper end.  The tube for
the adjustable wheel is different, I believe it has a longer slot than
the tube for the fixed wheel. 

I don't know of any sources for stator tubes, although you might try
Triumphs Only.  I've heard that a replacement can be fabricated from
brake line tubing, but it can be difficult to thread the wires through,
since the center hole is smaller.
