Hmmm, isn't the 6 about 6 inches wider than the 4 in the track department?  
That would leave the TR-4A bodied TR-6 framed vehicle with each tire 
sticking out of the wheel well by about 2 inches maybe?

Or did this all happen with tire size and offset?

Not sure here, as the TR-6 is about the only Triumph made after 1960 that I 
have never owned.
