Thanks to the list for the replies concerning run-on in a TR6. A summary of the causes are; low octane gas timing anti run-on valve (not on '71) idle speed to high carb synchronization carb mixture to lean carb mixture to rich hot spots on the cylinder head lots to check but I got lucky - it was the idle speed.
