My '70 Spit MK3 built on Nov 19, 1969 fits your plinth description exactly.  
I do have a spare, non-reflective tailight lense and an amber lense which 
I've always keep nicely wrapped in towels in my junk box to avoid scratches.  
After reading this, I think I'll move them to a safer spot!
