Subject: Carb Question

Have always had trouble with idle.
when I did a carb rebuild some time ago, I took the butterflies out and
cleaned them. When I put them back in I got them reversed. It was quite
noticeable and I turned them around. Car runs fine but idles high (2000)

Hi Lee

I fought the high idle on my 71 TR6n this spring. Mine would idle ok at
first and them slowly increase. I did solve it by a combination of things.
I blocked off the idle by-pass valve with a solid gasket made out of some
gasket material. I tightened up the screw on the temperature compensator so
that it would never open, replaced the intake / exhaust manifold and took my
time adjusting the timing. Also see if you vacuum retard in functioning and
the dwell is set correct. It took some time and can be a little frustrating
at times, but that's what we enjoy, right!

Good Luck
