You lucky so and so! ...Wish I had some cover never mind a lift\pit.

Given the choice I'd go for a lift. Imagine the sheer joy of being able to
raise the car 2'6" above the ground and being able to sit on a chair while
changing your brake pads. Or welding a patch on a sill.

 Welding in a pit is horrible, in fact all the pits I've seen have been
slimy horrible nasty fume filled affairs ...even the pukka fibreglass lined
type.

Nope, give or a 2 or better still four poster ramp anyday. Sheer luxury!
The latter BTW can sometimes be acquired at a very reasonable price used
and actually takes up little more useful space. In fact I know one guy who
stores his Herald on the lift in the raised position (locked off of course)
and uses the space below to store his everyday fug box.
