I use the silicone stuff - I have no problems with it so far after 5 years.   I
did spill some when I was working under the bonnet, but instead of stripping the
paint, it just protected it !     There are some who say that it makes your
brakes stick on, but I reckon that may be bad assembly or bad luck, because as I
said I have had no trouble (that's torn it-  I had better check my brakes as
soon as I'm on the road next month !)
