It is my understanding that all 6 cyl triumph engines were painted in a satin black. Satin, not full gloss and not dead flat. They also had hand painted on them a code representing the cam/head combination so the assemblers knew which model it was destined for. We have had new blocks like this in stock until recently and 2 of our own original cars (TR5 & T2500 sedan) still have these markings clearly on them.
