Sorry, soapbox mode on.
It is NOT the role of the defense lawyer to seek justice. That is the role
of the DA and the Judge. Most DA's have long ago forgotten that. It IS the
role of the defense lawyer to make the state prove its case beyond a
reasonable doubt. It IS the defense lawyers job to make the police follow
the law and to exclude illegally obtained evidence. It IS the defense
lawyers job to see the Constitution is not regarded as a mere technicality
and is honored as the highest law and foundation of fairness, justice and
control of the power of the state. It is the job of the state to prove its
case through lawful means or else LOSE! Finally, its the job of the police
to act like professionals and solve cases through police work that produces
competent evidence and not act like a bunch of idiots who need to lie and
cheat to get a conviction.
