can anyone tell me why a '76 TR6 would have two body numbers?
the "original," which is painted the same color as the firewall and the
rest of the car, is 43915CF. a second body number tag, identical in size
and riveted to the firewall, is an inch above this one. only it looks
like fairly clean aluminum and the sequence begins with a letter:
T42012CF. if you ignore the prefix, the newer looking number is
numerically lower than the original.
according to the PO (who bought it from the original owner with 3K on it)
and two mechanics, the car has never been wrecked (original paint & trim
match the commission plate; no signs of welding or other damage; no
rust.) does anyone have a benign explanation for this?
thanks.
