Hi, James.

The fish scale pattern you want is called 'engine turning' and was a feature
of 20's Bugattis and the like. You really need a drill press to do it
properly, using a circle of abrasive paper stuck on the end of a piece of
wooden dowel.
If you want to be really clever, make up an adjustable end stop for your
alloy plate. Then, you can move it along by the same amount for each
turning. Doing the job by eye, you'll find the circles wander off line as
you go along.
To make it even better, junk the pop rivets and use button (dome) headed
socket screws in stainless steel. These fasten with an Allen key and look
extra posh.

By the way, did your marmot go to a marmot school of automotive electrical
practises? Is it qualified, or does it just claim to be trained.

I don't actually know what a marmot is but I presume it's a small mammal of
some description.

Is it like a marmoset? With one of those, you can play marmo, just as a
Wombat comes in useful for an invigorating game of Wom.

Just wondering...or possibly needing more medication,
Dave Hill
