>From the Crane Cams/Allison Hi-Intensity Ignition Installation Instructions:

XR700 EI:

"If you are keeping the original equipment coil, you do not need to do
anything as far as ballast resistance.

If you are changing coils and your vehicle has a ceramic ballast resistor
or resistance wire, do not use any additional ballast resistor that may be
provided with the coil.

If your original equipment coil had internal resistance and you are
changing to a new coil with lower resistance (such as an aftermarket
performance coil), you must add a 1.2 to 1.9 ohm ballast resistor."

XR3000 EI

"For maximum performance, any ballast resistancemyst be bypassed.

If your original equipment coil has internal ballast resistance, you must
replace the coil. (All Bosch blue coils and Lucas coils have internal
resistance.)"

I talked with the people at Moss (Crane was closed because of the holiday)
and their tech person said you did not have to disconnect the ballast
resistor if you were adding a Lucas Sports coil even though the
instructions with the coil say to do so.

It would seem from the instructions with the Crane XR700 and what the
person from Moss said, that both the EI and Sports coil could be installed
with no changes required to the ballast resistor.

Interested in the opinions of the list.
