First of all I want to thank those of YOU on the list who helped get
me to the point I'm at today. Without your assistance I would
venture to say that I would still be months away from completion.
Some of you are probably aware that I've been trying to complete my
1964 Spitfire. Its a project I've been working on for 10 years.
Well, aside from the state of Nebraska throwing a wrench in the works
I would be driving it this weekend. Several things took place friday
to keep me off the road. First of all the spitfire had a Colorado
title. In order to license the car in Nebraska the car has to be
inspected by the Sherifs department for proper comm # (VIN). Now in
order to do this the vehicle has to be brought to the DMV building.
There were two ways for me to get the vehicle there, one was to drive
it which was technically against the law, the 2nd way would be by
trailer. The last thing I wanted to do was to drive the car up on my
trailer for a 3 mile trip. I elected to drive the car knowing that
if I got stopped for no plates and was given a ticket I would then
have to pay 10 years of back license fees for a car that was never
capable of being driven!!! Fortunately the trip to the DMV went
without incident, other than a whole lot of fun. Once I got there it
turns out that the national computer check system was DOWN. Again I
got lucky and the sherif was willing to take the information down
about the car and would call me when the computers came back on line.
He thought it would be monday. No sooner did I get home when the
phone rang, the sherif was calling to say the computers were up and
paper work was taken care of. Now all I had to do was go back to DMV
and get the title changed and get my plates, and WOW I'm on the
road!!!
Not quite, once I got to DMV I found out that for historical plates
you have to go to the State court house and apply for them there.
Unfortunately the clerk also said, the lady that handles these plates
at the State court house went home sick earlier that day. So, I
still couldn't get my plates. Now I'm spending another weekend
looking at my Spitfire parked in the driveway calling to me!! Since
I'm out of town all next week I have to send my father down to take
care of the historical plates. After that its supposed to be 7 to
10 days before the plates arrive. Now I'm just wondering what other
fly is going to get in the ointment.
Sorry to bore everybody with this, but I don't have much else to do
but sit and look at my car!!
