Speaking of the Gumball...

I joined the list only a few months ago, so I don't know if you've already
done a thread about the Targa Tasmania. For those who haven't heard of it,
it's probably the biggest, classical-style, legal road rally in the world,
held on the isle (and state) of Tasmania, Australia. A hundred or more cars,
from modern V8's to classic exotics, antique racers to works rally cars,
compete over about a week and 1,000's of km.

There was a TR7 V8 in last years' race that came 3rd overall and won on
handicap! The Kiwi owner, Mark Parsons's, is apparently nicknamed "Mr.
Sideways". (His copilot was Aussie named Ojars Balodis.) The car was "built
in England for rallying", according to Triumph World.

Now, what's all this rot about old, inferior cars that only an enthusiast
would put up with (eg. Miata vs. TR6)?
